Montana Don's Team- 2020

.

In Memory of Marylin Leslie and Don Rakow

Thank you for visiting this site and considering a donation and/or participation in the 2020 Parkinson’s Unity Walk, which is pending the lifting of coronavirus regulations. We are hoping for Autumn 2020, but suspect April 2021.

Montana Don’s Team was the inspiration of Marylin Leslie to honor and support her brother, Don Rakow, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2007. After years of forging on with his usual zest for life, Don succumbed to Parkinson's in March 2020. He was blessed to have completed the Unity Walk with family and friends in 2018.

Don strived to make every day memorable, and he lived life to the fullest.  He instilled in his family a zest for life and an adventurous spirit. Don loved hiking, bungee jumping, snowmobiling, white water rafting and sky diving. Family and friends were always encouraged to join him, and some were even brave enough. Don also fostered 35 dogs over the years, and he would give you the shirt off his back.

Since the inception of the team in 2007, Marylin was devoted to the Parkinson’s Unity Walk through fundraising endeavors and participation in the walk every year.

In 2015, Marylin was also diagnosed with Parkinson’s. However, this did not change the focus of her efforts. She continued to support the Parkinson’s Unity Walk with her brother in mind and never shifted the focus to her diagnosis. As her disease progressed, Marylin remained devoted to the walk and crossed her final finish line in 2019. Her determination was remarkable.

Marylin passed away on July 17, 2019 after fighting this disease to the best of her ability.  We miss her dearly, but know she is forever in our hearts.  We hope her efforts will remain strong. She will always be the anchor to this team.

We thank you for continuing to support this team and the Parkinson’s Unity Walk. These efforts are committed to ongoing research to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease, which impacts the lives of so many.

Sincere thanks,

The family and friends of Don Rakow and Marylin Leslie
